Faith and Finances

Faith and Finances is a 12-session (meeting once weekly) financial literacy class that was designed specifically to transfer basic, technical financial management skills to people living on low- to moderate-incomes.  It also seeks to build awareness of financial practices and systems and how to overcome real world pitfalls on the path to financial health.

Faith and Finances course begins with laying the foundation for good financial literacy by discussing money in the context of relationships, attitudes, values, and obstacles. Next, the curriculum encourages participants to plan ahead – to set goals and make a spending plan.  After establishing a spending plan, Faith and Finances discusses giving, thrift, debt, and risk. Finally, the curriculum encourages learners to protect their assets and consider their net worth.

Faith & Finances differs from other financial education programs. It is not about helping participants achieve wealth or material success. Rather, it aims to empower participants to experience restoration in their finances and in their relationships.

Every student is paired with a trained volunteer called an “Ally” who attends every class with their student and cheers them on toward personal growth.

Class traditionally meets on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. We begin with a homecooked meal at 5:30 pm and class content from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
